Dental Implants
Dental implant treatment can be a long-term option for replacing missing teeth. Whether you are replacing a single tooth or restoring a full smile, dental implants are designed to provide a secure foundation for replacement teeth that look and function similarly to natural teeth.
As well as restoring the appearance of your smile, dental implants can help support overall dental health. When teeth are missing, the surrounding bone and neighbouring teeth can be affected over time. Replacing missing teeth may help maintain the structure of your smile and support normal chewing function.
At Transform Smiles, we provide dental implant treatment for a range of cases, from straightforward single-tooth replacement to more complex restorations. Our team uses modern technology and treatment planning techniques, and your care will be led by our implant dentist our dentist, who has experience in implant dentistry.
What is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a small titanium post that is placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Over time, the implant integrates with the bone and provides a stable base for replacement teeth.
Once healing has taken place – which typically takes around 3 to 6 months – a custom-made restoration such as a crown, bridge, or denture can be attached to the implant.
These restorations are carefully designed to blend with your natural teeth and restore both function and appearance.
Types of Dental Implants
Single implant
A single dental implant can be used to replace one missing tooth. A custom-made crown is attached to the implant to restore the appearance and function of the tooth.
Multiple implants
If several teeth are missing, dental implants can be used to support a dental bridge. This allows replacement teeth to be securely supported without relying on neighbouring natural teeth.
Full smile restoration
If a full arch of teeth is missing, several implants (often between 4 and 8) can be used to support a full arch denture or bridge. Implant-supported dentures are designed to provide greater stability compared with traditional removable dentures.
Why choose dental implants?
Crowns, bridges and dentures address the short-term cosmetic problem of missing teeth but do nothing to stop bone loss. Crown and bridge dentistry also requires grinding down healthy teeth leaving them at much greater risk for cavities and tooth failure. Dentures become uncomfortable and unstable over time as the jawbone shrinks causing eating and speech problems.
With dental implants, replacement teeth are securely anchored without compromising any neighbouring healthy teeth. Dental implants, like natural teeth, stimulate the jaw and stop bone loss.
The benefits of implants
- Implants look and feel just like natural teeth – you shouldn’t notice any difference.
- Implants provide permanent stability and comfort without affecting healthy teeth.
- Implants won’t come loose or fall out.
- Implants can last for many years if you maintain good oral hygiene.
- Implants prevent ageing bone loss, by stimulating your bone structure and stabilising the surrounding teeth.
Are you suitable for treatment?
Patients must have healthy gums and enough jawbone to support dental implants. At your initial consultation our dentist will use x-rays and scans to establish if pre-treatment is required and will explain this further.
Some patients may need to see a hygienist for a course of treatment to ensure their gums are strong and healthy before the dental implant process can begin. our dentist will also check that there is sufficient bone for an implant to be placed successfully at this initial consultation. If there is insufficient bone you may need to need pre-treatment before your dental implants can be placed. This may include oral surgery procedures such as bone grafting, bone expansion or sinus lifts.
